Who Gets Charged When There is No Driver?

A bicyclists died after a self driving car caused an accident, hitting a woman. Who should be charged with Careless Driving Causing Death?

Driving in a careless manner, without regard for the conditions of the road, is charged as Careless Driving in Greeley, Johnstown, and Berthoud. This charge is common when there is a car accident. Often, the driver deemed responsible for the accident will be ticketed for Careless Driving or Reckless Driving. But, who gets charged when there is no driver? That’s a question that’s being asked after a self-driving car hit a bicyclist, killing her. There was a human safety driver in the car, however, he was not in control of the car at the time of the accident – it was in autonomous mode. While I don’t know if any charges will be filed, if this had occurred with a human driver, Careless Driving Causing Death would be charged.
