Aggravated Robbery in Greeley | The Evil Twin Strikes Again!

Learn more about Aggravated Robbery in Colorado.

Wikipedia defines the ‘evil twin’ as “an antagonist found in many different fictional genres.” Apparently, one man didn’t get the memo about evil twins not being a real thing because that’s exactly what his defense was when he was charged with at least 10 counts of Aggravated Robbery. According to the news report, the man was charged with robbing 10 gas stations, convenience stores, and liquor stores using a pellet gun. The robberies were caught on surveillance video, where the man’s face and weapon were clearly visible. Even though the man maintained it was his evil twin who committed the robberies, he was still convicted of the crime.

Possible Sentence Range for Aggravated Robbery in Northern Colorado

Because the man used a pellet gun, which could be mistaken for a real gun, his Robbery charges would be aggravated. As a class 3 felony, Aggravated Robbery is considered a crime of violence and an extraordinary risk crime. This means, the sentencing ranges are increased. For example:

  • A normal class 3 felony is punishable by 4 to 12 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections.
  • An extraordinary risk class 3 felony is punishable by 4 to 16 years in DOC.
  • A crime of violence means the prison sentence range starts at the midpoint and the maximum is doubled. So, for a class 3 felony extraordinary risk crime of violence, the range would be 10 to 32 years in DOC. There is also a mandatory minimum prison sentence of at least the midpoint in the presumptive range.

This means the man could be facing 32 years in prison on each of the 10 counts. If the judge chooses to run the sentences consecutive (meaning one doesn’t start until the other is finished) he could be sentenced to 320 years in prison.
