New Weld County Statutes as the New Year Approaches for Greeley

Fewer states had as many huge or controversial changes as Colorado with the legalization of marijuana, but that’s not to say that other changes haven’t been made nationally. Come 2013, the layout of the law will look different across Greeley, Erie, Milliken, and other parts of Weld County as well as across the country. As a citizen, it is important to keep informed of the laws that govern society. While we all know that Third Degree Trespassing (CRS 18-4-504), Driving Under the Influence (CRS 42-4-1301), and Assault in the Second Degree (CRS 18-3-203) are crimes that are prosecuted vigorously by police, but there are some new and bizarre laws across Weld County and other areas that do not make sense to many residents.

For example, motorcyclists in Illinois may be fined for doing wheelies on a public road while they are moving. Voters also voted against people possessing, selling, or passing out shark fins. Plastic bottles are against the law in Massachusetts. Floridians may no longer flash their lights at other drivers to warn them of an impending speed trap. Beware of the fryer in North Carolina. It is a misdemeanor crime to steal unused cooking oil, but a felony if the value of the cooking oil, combined with the container, is valued at more than $1,000. Letting pigs loose into the wilds of Kentucky will result in a fine, because apparently the wilds are already overrun with pigs.

While some of the crimes may be laughable, Colorado has some equally ridiculous laws that may results in serious criminal charges, fines, and jail time because good people were not informed about changing laws and statues. Greeley police officers or Weld County District Attorneys will not accept excuses.
